WPL Women's Premier League (WPL)


Looking at the success of the Indian premier league and the spectators thronging the women's cricket matches BCCI decided to commence women cricket matches similar to the lines of IPL. It started in the year March' 2023.
IPL's structure serves as the basis for the structuring of the league. There are five teams and all the teams play with each other twice. The play off shall be between the first three teams that has maximum points. The first season matches took place between 4th March 2023 to 26th March 2023 featuring some 22 matches.
The opening season was own by the Mumbai Indians by defeating Delhi Capitals by 7 wickets. Final Scores played on 24th March 2023.

In the very first year of its occurrence it has already become the worlds 2nd highest earing league behind Women National Basketball association USA. This is according to Jack Genovese of Ampere Analytics, a media research firm
With the resources and number of spectators in India, it may not be surprising if it surpasses many of the other country's men's T20.
